Are you over 18? Yes
Other characters: N/A
Character's Name: Edward Elric
Character's Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga)
Profile for your character:
Physical Appearance: Edward Elric is a slightly shorter than average young man of about 16 years. He has long blonde hair which he usually keeps up in a braid or ponytail, though he has long unkempt bangs that hang in front of his face. Of course, you can’t forget his little hair antenna either. He has golden eyes and is in very good physical fitness, save for his missing right arm and left leg which he lost over a failed human transmutation. In their place, he has automail prosthetics which are a bioelectrical system to allow Edward mobility and normal function as if they were his real limbs. The automail is traditionally made of steel, though by the point at which I’m taking Edward he had been upgraded to cold-weather automail which is composed of other compounds to prevent frostbite in frigid climates. Edward generally wears black clothing. Part of the reason is to hide the unavoidable grease stains from his automail, and the other is histerrible questionable taste in fashion.
Personality: Ed has a very loud personality. He speaks his mind and doesn’t seem to care much about what most people think about it. He also has a hot temper and tends to solve his problems through violence rather than more rational means. In contrast to this however, Ed has very high morals and is adamant about sticking to them, especially taking the life of another. While Ed might grab you by your shirt and beat your face in, he’s not about to beat you so badly that you die from it.
Despite his rough edges, Ed is a rather compassionate young man and is often seen sympathizing with other characters, even to the point where said characters get frustrated and chide him for taking pity on them. There are multiple occasions through the story in which Ed goes out of his way to help others, often at great risk to his title as State Alchemist or even his life.
Edward is very driven and determined and he doesn’t like to be idle. His main motivation in the story is to restore his brother’s body and his own limbs that were lost during the rebound that occurred when he and Al tried to resurrect their mother, and it carries him through many obstacles and hardships that might be too daunting for others. As much as Alphonse doesn’t like it, Edward tends to carry the majority of the responsibility for what happened to their bodies and he sees it has his sole duty to rectify it. He understands that it was his own actions that got him to where he is now, and he doesn’t expect nor want anyone to be drawn in to his problems.
Writing Sample: [Note: This is a sample from an application to another game.]
Edward had been surprised to see Alphonse when he arrived in Riverview. He was even more surprised to see his bother instead of the seven-foot-tall suit of armor his soul had been bound to for the past five years, and not only that, but he looked healthy and well fed. Ed had just seen Al’s body in the portal, seen how thin and weak it was from years of literally sitting there doing nothing but waiting for his soul, but now here he was. As healthy and lively as ever, and for some reason, wearing his clothes. A few of his physical features were different too. His hair was darker and he wore it long unlike when they were younger and it was cut nice and short. There was also a strange color to his eyes. It wasn’t the same golden color that Ed had, nor was it the same as the color of the eyes the other Al had.
There was another concern. Neither of their experiences matched up. At least, not after the fiasco when they had tried to resurrect their mother. There were similarities at first, but even then there were details that were too different to ignore, and those were the memories that they supposedly shared. Ed could see the similarities between this person that called himself Alphonse Elric and the body of his brother that he had seen in the portal, but there was just too much that was just…off. This wasn’t Alphonse, not the one he knew. That much was clear to Edward. However, he couldn’t deny the same confusion that this “Al” experienced when they had spoken to each other. He had been told that other worlds existed, and just seeing Riverview had been proof of that, but was it possible for other worlds to be so similar to each other?
It was still dark when Ed woke up that morning, and the apartment was silent. He had gone over to “his” place where Al said he was staying. He had crashed on the couch in the common area due to the fact that there was an unknown woman in his bed. Apparently, his doppelganger had been sharing it. How and why were unimportant for the moment. What was important now was figuring out what the hell he was going to do with himself now that he was here.
Why do you believe your character is an appropriate fit for this game? I think it would be interesting to see how Ed would develop as a character where there are gods and godly powers, especially since he’s so skeptical of such things. It’s actually how he would clash with this world that makes him an interesting character to play in such an environment. His alchemy would also draw attention from the NPCs and PCs alike and make for some interesting development.
What would you like to do with your character in this game? I tend to just app in and go with the flow of CR and events, but I like to think that Ed would have to quickly break out of his SCIENCE mindset to adapt. I think he would be focusing on trying to find a way back to his home world, but depending on what goes down, there is a possibility that someone could eventually convince him to take a throne for the benefit of the people of this world.
